Principles of Bulk Solids Handling Technology for the Process Engineer

Coming up – on-line short courses concentrating on the principles of bulk materials handling in 2 important areas: 1) Storage and Discharge and 2) Pneumatic Conveying.

These two popular courses cover a variety of essential topics, giving a good base knowledge to the new recruit, or a valuable learning experience to the more experienced engineer.

Delivered on-line over a series of short sessions, the courses give delegates the opportunity to ask the experts questions relating to everyday problems faced in the plant and to network with engineers from similar industries.

19 – 23 April: Storage and Discharge of Powders and Bulk Materials; an introduction to the operation, design and specifications of hoppers and silos for reliable discharge

Subjects covered include: characterisation of powders and bulk materials / basic flow properties and equipment types / feeders and feeding / hopper discharge aids / segregation of materials / caking in storage vessels / determination of vessel design / the effects of changes in materials properties / predicting discharge rates  / practical session of worked examples

10 – 14 May: Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Materials; components of pneumatic conveying systems, selection and design techniques

Subjects covered include: dilute and dense phase conveying / selecting the correct hardware for your application / matching appropriate feeders to pneumatic systems / dust control methodology / practical design considerations / elimination of explosion hazards / positive and negative pressure systems

During each course common operational problems encountered will be discussed, with possible solutions explored.
