Bulk Materials Handling: Short Courses For Industry On-Line Learning

studying.jpg

A selection of short courses aimed at different levels of expertise for process engineers in the powder and bulk solids handling industries.

Our Mission: To help industry to get it's powders and bulk materials to behave in the way they need them to!

We support industries that are seeking to resolve process problems, develop design schemes for plant expansion, or simply improve product quality

Who should attend?   *plant designer *plant manager * maintenance staff * operational staff * senior management *anyone actively involved in the operation, design or troubleshooting of bulk materials handling systems *

These courses will improve your ability to deal with the design and troubleshooting of different systems. They aim to provide a better understanding of potential problems and how to make your plant as efficient and trouble-free as possible

October: Overview of Particulate Handling Technology; an introduction to the storing and handling of bulk materials, equipment selection and design methodologies for safe and reliable plant

Subjects covered include: storage and handling of bulk materials / hopper and silo design / feeder interfaces / discharge aids / sampling / characterisation techniques / dust control / separation and caking of bulk materials / methods of conveying – pneumatically, screw and belt.

November: Commissioning and Troubleshooting ‘Hands-on’ Pneumatic Conveying Systems; a look at the practical challenges of starting up systems on site and making sure they work as the designer intended

Subjects covered include: practical challenges of starting up systems on site / key signals that the system is operating correctly / Avoiding pitfalls / lean and dense phase pneumatic  conveying, rotary valves, blow tanks and various air supply types

November: Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Materials; components of pneumatic conveying systems, selection and design techniques

Subjects covered include: dilute and dense phase conveying / Selecting the correct hardware for your application / Matching appropriate feeders to pneumatic systems / Dust control methodology / Practical design considerations / Elimination of explosion hazards / Positive and negative pressure systems

December: Pneumatic Conveying System Design; in depth exploration of detailed calculations for design of pneumatic pipelines and specifying plant

Subjects covered include: Lean versus dense phase pneumatic conveying / obtaining conveying information /  equations for predicting pipeline pressure drop and throughput / how stepped bore pipelines enhance system performance and reduce problems / a detailed look at bends / air humidity effects / Practical details – choice of coupling systems, pipe specification systems etc

Rotary Valves: Design, Selection and Operational Issues; an exploration of the different valves and features available

Subjects covered include: Basics of rotary valve performance / Seals and bearings, options, functions and selection / Features for cleaning and preventing contamination / Venting – needs, options and ensuring success / ATEX requirements and responsibilities

Some of the more specialist Courses planned for 2021 include:

·       Measurement of the Properties and Bulk Behaviour of Particulate Materials

·       Dust Control for Processes

·       Electrostatics in Powder Handling

·       Powder Handling and Flow for Additive Manufacturing

·       Caking and Lump Formation in Powders and Bulk Solids
